Lynn McDaniel, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

My Areas of Interest:

I have been fortunate to have experience working with a variety of individuals presenting with a wide range of issues during my career as a psychologist. My clients range from children as young as five years of age to geriatric populations. My work with children and adolescents has focused on helping parents deal with various behavioral issues, developmental issues, and ongoing medical problems utilizing a cognitive-behavioral framework. Earlier in my career, I worked in the public schools providing psychological evaluations for special education students with emotional and behavior issues. I have also advocated for parents who wish to obtain services for their children in the public school setting. My work with adults includes individual and couples therapy focused on communication problems, financial stress, and relationship conflict. I have worked with individuals struggling with chronic pain, end of life issues, grief and loss, transgender and identity struggles, divorce, as well as phase of life issues and spirituality. I am greatly interested in helping all of my clients learn to understand how their symptoms not only impact their daily life but how they can take control of their own symptoms and feel more empowered.

My Style and Approach to Therapy:

My approach to therapy is very interactive and humanistic. I prefer to meet my clients where they are in the process of change and join them in determining where they want to go in the future. This may mean looking at issues from the past that keep clients "stuck" and unable to move forward in a healthy and productive way or identifying current situations where they may need help learning and using effective problem-solving and symptom management skills. I am a firm believer that the therapeutic process begins with a positive therapeutic alliance and work diligently to assure my clients that they are important in their own healing process. My therapeutic style incorporates theoretically sound and proven interventions, while keeping in mind the unique qualities and attributes every client brings to the therapeutic setting. My philosophy is that each client brings with them a specific set of life experiences (both positive and negative) that provide opportunity for positive change and actualization into the best possible version of themselves they can be. My purpose, therefore, is to help them reach that goal.
